Eastern Washington once again drives down the field to put another touchdown on the board, making it 38-35. Appalachian State once again answers Eastern Washington, putting another touchdown on the board and going up 31-21.

Eastern Washington is going to have to get their offense going. Their three touchdowns have been on a kickoff return for a touchdown, a fake punt, and a 14 yard drive after another long kickoff return. Eastern Washington hasn’t had a single long drive for a touchdown today. Meanwhile, Eastern Washington’s defense hasn’t been able to stop Appalachian State’s offense all day. They’ll need to do that if they want to win this game.

In the Division II quarterfinals, California (PA) leads Shepherd 27-17 at halftime, Grand Valley State leads Central Washington 6-0 in the 1st quarter, while North Alabama and Valdosta State are tied at 6 in the 1st quarter. I can’t seem to find a score for the Chadron State vs. NW Missouri State game.

In the Division III quarterfinals, Mt. Union leads St. John Fisher 21-0 at halftime, Mary-Hardin Baylor leads Wesley College 10-3 at halftime, Wisconsin-Whitewater leads Wabash 7-0 in the 1st quarter, while the Bethel vs. Central College game is reported as being delayed.

Despite 3 holding calls on their drive, including one calling back a touchdown, Appalachian State is still able to stick it into the endzone, and now it’s 21-7 ASU over Eastern Washington near halftime.

We start off the day with the MAC Championship game between Miami (OH) and Central Michigan and our first I-AA quarterfinal between Eastern Washington and Appalachian State.

Another weekend with two top-5 teams go down.  First it was #2 Oregon and then would-be AP, Coaches, and Harris poll #2 Oklahoma, who looses to Texas Tech 34-27.

It’s now only a 2 touchdown game, but Oklahoma has to get Texas Tech’s offense off the field, who has largely been in cruise mode instead of attack mode for most of the 2nd half.

Just a note. Oklahoma has 38 total yards - 27 rushing yards and 11 passing yards. Meanwhile, they have 45 yards in penalties, and their lone touchdown was on an interception return on Texas Tech’s opening drive.

Speaking of the #2 curse, while Kansas should be the #2 team in the BCS, Oklahoma is actually the team on deck to be #2 in all the human polls. They’re trying their best not to be #2. Of course, all of this favors West Virginia, who would presumably be in line for the national title if Oklahoma loses tonight, and the winner of the Kansas/Missouri games loses in the Big 12 title game. West Virginia is still up 21-10 at halftime over Cincinnati.

A recap on the CAA website said that the meeting of CAA athletic directors decided to determine the team who will pick up the automatic bid to the I-AA tournament by coin flip. Massachusetts won the coin flip so they are technically the conference champion for the purposes of getting the auto-bid to the I-AA tournament. The AD meeting stressed that UMass and Richmond are officiall co-champions, and felt that the two teams were too equal to put the issue up for an actual vote.

In updates, Georgia Southern is trying to worm their way into the I-AA playoffs, but they’re still down to Colorado State 42-31 late in the 4th quarter.

Tennessee has almost come back against Vanderbilt, but the Commodores still lead 24-22 with 7:14 to go.

Notre Dame leads Duke 14-0.

Louisiana Monroe is currently leading Alabama 21-14 in the 4th quarter.

Richmond just defeated William & Mary 31-20. That means they and Massachusetts tie for the CAA title. The automatic bid into the I-AA tournament will now be determined by a majority vote of the conference’s athletic directors. Who will they choose? If they want the better team, they’ll probably pick Massachusetts. If they’re nervous at all about Richmond getting a bid as an at-large, however, they may give the auto-bid to the Spiders.

No, I’m not dead - just got busy for a week or two, but now I’m back. In any case, let’s start blogging this weekend’s games.

Amazingly, given how good South Florida has been, today’s South Florida/Syracuse game is a game between the Big East’s two bottom teams (this is the 2nd straight week Syracuse has played in such a game) with both teams having only 1 conference win. South Florida is out of the Big East title race, but they can at least start making their way back up the standings with a win. They currently lead Syracuse 7-0.

UNC vs. North Carolina State has pretty much no impact on the ACC race, but UNC needs a win to prevent itself from becoming bowl ineligible, while North Carolina State wants to win to not put themselves on the same bubble. Currently N. C. State leads that game 10-0.

Clemson and Wake Forest are also battling for sole possession of 2nd place in the ACC Atlantic Division. A Clemson win here would effectively set up an ACC Atlantic championship game between themselves and Boston College on November 17th. Clemson currently leads 10-7.

Iowa can finally get bowl eligible (amazingly enough) with a win over Minnesota. Iowa currently leads 14-0. The same is true if Michigan defeats Purdue. Michigan State currently leads that game 7-6. Ditto for Northwestern defeating Indiana, but the Hoosiers currently lead 14-3.

Of course, one of two game-of-the-weeks are going on in the Big Ten as well, where Wisconsin currently leads Michigan 7-0.

In the SEC, Tennessee tries to clear out their final SEC West opponent in Arkansas in their attempt to win the SEC Eastern division.

In the Big 12, Kansas State can gain bowl eligibility if they defeat Nebraska, while Nebraska needs a win to avoid becoming bowl ineligible. That game is currently scoreless. Missouri needs a win over Texas A&M in order to keep within a game of Kansas in the Northern division. The Tigers currently lead that game 7-0.

It’s over in Eugene, and USC can forget any hopes of climbing back into the title game. Oregon intercepts USC in a desperation final drive to end the game and the Ducks win 24-17.

The Trojans are trying to come back, scoring a touchdown and closing to 24-17 of Oregon with 4:44 to go.

All of a sudden South Florida shows up. After the kickoff following the safety, South Florida goes 3 plays and 63 yards to get a touchdown and closes the gap to 16-9.

Meanwhile, Florida answers Georgia’s touchdown and closes their gap to 28-24.

Also, Nebraska takes a 17-3 lead on Texas.

South Florida drives down to the Connecticut 4 hoping to finally get on the board, but UConn intercepts a pass in the endzone, and keeps their 16-0 lead in the middle of the 3rd quarter.

Also, Tebow is already effected with a bruised shoulder for Florida. Now, Harvin looks like he’s injured his arm. That is basically Florida’s entire offense both with injuries now. If Florida loses today, the road is cleared once again for South Carolina to win the SEC East. However, if they lose to Tennessee tonight and with Kentucky losing, Tennessee would once again be in the drivers seat.

The Gators are getting in trouble. Georgia comes out at halftime and quickly takes a 28-17 lead.

Duck and cover? Oregon takes a 24-10 lead on Southern Cal in Autzen Stadium in the 4th quarter.

Meanwhile, Eastern Michigan leads Western Michigan 3-2 in the bottom of the 4th inning at halftime.

Mississippi State isn’t the only SEC team on the verge of bowl eligibility. Vanderbilt gets win #5 themselves, beating Miami (OH) 24-13. The SEC could get 11 bowl eligible teams. Of course, since they’ll have to all beat each other to do so, they may all be 6-6 or 7-5…

UConn tries to show that they’re really for real, and they’re off to a good start over South Florida, leading 9-0 in the 2nd quarter.

Florida strikes back by picking off a Georgia pass for a touchdown to tie that game up at 14. Elsewhere, Oregon leads Southern Cal 10-3 at halftime and Minnesota leads Michigan 10-3 in the 2nd quarter.

Iowa pulls out the upset over Michigan State 34-27 in double overtime.  Meanwhile, Texas Tech isn’t done yet, scoring another touchdown with 2:08 to go to creep to within 31-26 against Colorado.

West Virginia is putting a hurting on Rutgers as they now go up 24-7. Meanwhile, Texas Tech is trying to climb back, putting another touchdown on the board and closing the gap against Colorado to 24-13.

In the meantime, one wouldn’t think that Navy would be a candidate for our loss-to-a-I-AA game of the week, but they’re currently tied with Delaware 21-21.

We’re looking at a couple of possible mild upsets today. Northwestern currently leads Purdue 17-14 while Iowa has now tied Michigan State at 17. Also, Colorado is starting to run all over Texas Tech 24-6.

Missouri is also up on Iowa State early 7-0.

I just saw an ad for the Big East called “someday…” and they went through a “someday” thing for each team, and one of them was “Someday, Syracuse and Pittsburgh will build on their great tradition” and at the end it said “someday is today.”

West Virginia strikes first against Rutgers and leads 7-0. Louisville is also deciding that they’ll play football again, jumping on Pittsburgh 14-0.
